Abstract

The pattern of choosing the type of contraceptive in 2020 shows that most acceptors choose to use the injection method by 72.9%, followed by the pill by 19.4%. From an effectiveness perspective, these two types of devices are short-term contraceptive methods, so their level of effectiveness in controlling pregnancy is lower than other types of contraception. This pattern occurs every year, where participants prefer short-term contraceptive methods compared to long-term contraceptive methods, namely Intra-Uterine Device (IUD), implants, Female Operative Method (MOW) and Male Operative Method (MOP) (Ministry of Health, 2021). The choice of contraceptive method is strongly influenced by the knowledge of a woman of childbearing age about her body condition, and the indications and contraindications of each contraceptive method. Lack of knowledge is one of the causes of low knowledge of WUS about non-hormonal contraceptive methods which can actually be a safer alternative for health and more economical for the family economy. This community service was carried out in Pintusona Village, Pangururan District, Samosir Regency in 2023. The conclusion in the implementation of the health promotion activities carried out was that there was an increase in the knowledge of 32 PUS about choosing contraceptives that were in accordance with the health conditions of PUS. This can be seen from the increase in the average score of knowledge before counseling, which was 11.05, increasing to 18.05. This also shows that health promotion is proven to be able to increase one's knowledge about health. There are many results of community service that have proven the effect of health promotion on increasing one's knowledge about health.
